| Q: How low a sheen is the Wipe on poly? A: It depends on how many coats you apply. One is very low sheen, but the more coats you add, the higher the sheen, though it never really gets shinier than semi-gloss. | | |
| Q: Can Wipe-On Poly be brushed on as well as being wiped? A: It is not formulated for brushing, and will not handle well off a brush. | | |
| Q: I built a serving cart from maple and after conditioning the wood with Varathane wood conditioner, stained it with three coats of Varathane oil base gel stain. After drying, I applied one coat of Varathane Diamond Wood Finish, semi-gloss, before I realized my mistake that it was a waterbased finish. What can I do now? A: As long as the stain was sufficiently dry, you have little to worry about. Varathane goes out of their way to make sure their waterbased coatings are compatible with their own oil based stains. Keep an eye on it; if there is no delamination, which will show up as white marks or areas, you are most likely home free. | | |
| Q: I understand a sander sealer is best over Watco Danish Oil before top coating for protection. A: Nope. Danish Oil is both an excellent sealer and an excellent finish. In other words, you don’t need anything over or under Danish Oil. Simply apply as many coats as you like at one per day, flooding them on and wiping them off, until you get the look you want. |
